Empowering Nevada’s Education Community

The project centered on transforming Great Schools All Kids into School Scout Nevada, a comprehensive data portal designed to empower Nevada’s families, educators, and community members with insights into Nevada public school performance. Creating School Scout Nevada involved significant challenges as the existing platform needed a complete overhaul. The previous site lacked mobile optimization, making it difficult for users to access information.

The data visualization was cluttered and complex, failing to provide a user-friendly experience, which made it hard for families, educators, and school leaders to interpret and act on valuable insights. The backend database was disorganized and had issues with data reliability and management. This project required a thorough front-end and back-end redesign to address the critical needs of Nevada’s education community.

Brand Evolution

In repositioning Great Schools. All Kids. as School Scout Nevada, we used exploration visuals to reflect the journey audiences take through Nevada’s educational landscape. Inspired by hiking and scouting, the brand visuals emphasize guidance and empowerment, helping users make informed decisions with clarity and confidence. This direction underscores our commitment to inclusivity and adaptability, positioning School Scout Nevada as a trusted resource for the community.

The Process

Engage with key internal stakeholders to gain insights into the target audiences—families, students, educators, legislators, and community members—and understand their specific data needs.

Reevaluate the available data to determine its scope and purpose, design a manageable backend database, and develop a user-friendly front-end visualization.
Design a front-end website that embodies the new brand, and integrates features like a comprehensive Help Center, school comparison, robust school reports, and more that deliver an improved user experience.

Launch and deploy the website and database ahead of key legislative sessions to support government and other data-driven decision-makers.

The Solution

We began by focusing on the core user experience with mockups for key content pages, ensuring the design was both functional and visually aligned with the new brand identity. This approach allowed us to establish a seamless navigation experience across both mobile and desktop platforms.

The feature pages were designed to make complex educational data more accessible and actionable for users. Key features like the School Profile page, and data such as Equity Act data, and year-over-year comparison were integrated to help families, educators, and school leaders better understand and assess school performance.

We redesigned the school search to include refined filters like location, performance, and demographics, which help users quickly find relevant information. The optimized layout works seamlessly on desktop and mobile, and the new school comparison widget lets users compare schools without disrupting their browsing experience. This streamlined approach enables faster, more informed decision-making without cluttering the interface.
